ACTIVITIES BONE FISHING Andros is laced with thousands of miles of natural inland waterways, mangroves, and sight fishing flats. We are at the heart of this Bonefish Heaven! Whether you are a fly fisherman or using light tackle, sight fishing is possibly the most exciting way to fish, since bonefish are being "hunted" on the flats in water depth of 6 inches to 3 feet, where most fish will be "tailing" - once hooked up, you will see every screaming run they make. We might also pursue the "mudding" or "cruising" fish in deeper water. Sometimes the fish are in water too shallow for the boat, in which case you will have to wade after them. You will aboard flats skiffs custom-made of these shallow waters, captain by experienced guides. DEEP SEA FISHING This is Sport Fishing at it's best, along the east coast of Andros rims the "Tongue of the Ocean", with its 6,000-foot drop-off - the ideal seascape for Big Games. There are many species of fish known around the island, species likely to be caught on a deep-sea fishing trip include barracuda, shark, marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo, mackerel, grouper, yellow tail and other bottom dwellers using our deep drop technique. NATURE ENTHUSIAST There are over 200 species of endemic and migrating birds, more than 40 known species of wild orchids, and butterfly populations on Andros. The settlement of Staniard Creek is one of the best birding locations in the Bahamas. Among the most common are: the Bahama Woodstar, the Bahama Swallow and the Bahama Yellow Throat. Other wildlife includes wild boars, land crabs, and iguanas as big as four feet in length on the island of Andros. Freshwater mud flats, thick brush, mangroves and inland waterways are other distinctions that make up this Atlantic oasis. Excursion through the deep forests of pine and mahogany you may possibly find that elusive chickcharnie. SCUBA DIVING The Andros Barrier Reef (the third largest in the world, yet most unexplored) offers incredible varieties for divers from the near vertical wall dives with dramatic ledges and caves to shallow back-reefs that abound with reef fish and invertebrates. Coral Gardens, Wrecks, Walls, Caverns, and Blue Holes are popular dive locations. You will find tiny seahorses in the mangroves to watch a giant manta ray glide by through the deep blue. There are dive sites to accommodate beginners who have never dived before to the most experienced diver. Dives can range from 20 feet to 130 feet in depth. Some popular dive sites are Bethel Channel, Potomac, and Lady Moore, just to name a few. SNORKELING Snorkeling is a pastime that all ages can safely enjoy. Andros offers an incredible diversity of marine life in shallow coral reefs around the island that are no deeper than 15 feet. Staniard Rock offers the greatest snorkeling in the Bahamas with its spectacular circle of coral. Sea turtles, nurse sharks, spotted eagle ray and southern stingrays love these areas. BLUE HOLES Blue holes (underwater cave systems) can best be described as entrances to the intricate cave systems that run underneath the island and sea floor. Andros has 178 blue holes on land and at least 50 in the sea. Experienced recreational divers can enter from either the ocean or island entrances since the ocean blue holes are connected to those inland and even to those blue holes on the west side of the island. Blue holes are affected by the tides therefore they undertake different conditions which create very different ways for us to enjoy them while diving. Some of the popular blue holes are: Uncle Charlie's Blue Hole, Captain Bill's Blue Hole and Mariner's Well, and the list goes on...
